Keep active this winter, improve the air quality around our school and join schools across Canada to celebrate Winter Walk Day.
Here are some ideas for students:

  • If you can walk safely to school, wrap up warm, leave the car at home and travel to school by foot with friends.
  • If you live too far to walk the whole way, try getting dropped off at a friend’s house or a few blocks away from the school so you can walk the last leg.
  • If you take the school bus, you are not adding to the issues related to kiss n’ ride. Walk the LOOP when you arrive.
  • No matter “how” you travel to school, ALL students will be asked to walk laps of the LOOP until the music stops or you are signalled to enter the school.

Walking to school is the simplest form of exercise and helps kids get the 60 minutes of daily physical activity they need. It’s also a great
cure for winter blues and helps students concentrate better in class. Encourage your children to walk to improve physical and mental
health, create a healthier environment, safe routes to school, make friends and have fun!

Parents please chat with your child(ren) about safe practices and routes for walking to school. Being a respectful, considerate community member is also important. Students are encouraged to walk together with friends, older students or as a family.
